AERC TECHNICAL COMMITTEE NEWS
For Ride Managers and Interested AERC Members: Mapping Support for the AERC Ride Calendar
By the Technical Committee
The AERC Technical Committee is considering the mapping needs of the AERC. We are looking at setting up a system where interested members could look up all rides within a selected distance of their home and obtain basic ride information at the same time. This system would also assist ride managers and sanctioning directors in considering ride date conflicts.
The map that the member would see would be similar to the new Google Maps system but with the added AERC information available.
This project cannot be done without the cooperation of all the concerned parties. The ride managers would provide the ride name and the location of the ride using GPS coordinates (lat/long). Members who might be at a ride site and have a GPS unit with them for present or past rides could give the coordinate information to the ride manager for submittal to the committee.
The information we will need is simple -- the latitude and longitude indicated in WGS 84 datum in dd mm ss or dd mm.mmm. The dd mm.mmm is preferred (dd mm ss is degrees, minutes and seconds, dd mm.mmm is degrees and minutesÑto three decimal places).
It would be appreciated if all information be transmitted to Bob Morris (bobmorris@mci.net) for inclusion in a database. Remember, this will be your system so your participation is very important.
