The AERC Board of Directors has approved $500 per region to support AERC-suitable educational clinics in each region, to be administered by the AERC Education Committee. These funds have come from member donations designated for educational purposes.
One of the best ways to make these clinics happen is through ride managers. The Education Committee needs sponsors who will take responsibility for the clinic, working with the regional directors and the Education Committee for support.
At the request of the board, the Education Committee has developed a set of criteria for eligibility for funding. The regional directors for the region where the clinic would be located and the committee would approve the funding request.
The Education Committee has developed the following criteria:
-- The clinic must be at least one day in length.
-- The clinic must be open to any AERC member.
-- The organizers of the clinic must submit:
1. the budget for the course to regional directors and the Education Committee including the amount requested from AERC
2. the fees for participants
3. the agenda for the clinic
4. the names of the clinicians
5. any material that will be handed out to participants.
-- The course material must be already approved by the Education Committee or must be reviewed and approved by the committee. The "Beyond the Basics" course material is an example of already-approved material.
-- Any presenters of the course must be willing to share any course material that is given to participants (e.g., slides, handouts) with other potential AERC clinicians for use in future clinics.
-- The Education Committee recommends that these clinics be "classroom" clinics as this enables broader participation. However, clinics with equines will be considered if auditors are also allowed. Clinics with equines must present proof of insurance with AERC named as an additional covered entity -- to this end, if the clinic is in conjunction with a sanctioned ride, it will fall under AERC ride insurance.
-- If the clinic makes a profit, then AERC would expect the clinic to make a contribution towards further educational seminars.
The hope of the Education Committee is that this program will increase:
1. the number of clinics available around the country to AERC members
2. the number of clinicians who can give clinics
3. the amount of material for clinics.
The Ride Managers Committee believes these educational clinics can help introduce new people to the sport and increase membership.
The Education Committee can provide material for clinics and a list of potential clinicians and advice on how to successfully facilitate and conduct a clinic. Many ride managers have held, or still hold, similar endurance clinics for members in their regions. This program will help make those programs even better. For others, this program will help introduce educational programs to those who wish to hold a clinic.
If you wish to sponsor such a clinic, please submit your proposal to your regional directors with a copy to Stagg Newman, chair of the AERC Education Committee, stagg@pisgahvu.com.
